domestic dispute in NevadaAccording to initial reports, the female and her boyfriend were spotted at a car wash near Valley View Blvd when the woman suddenly struck the male victim. The man was run over by the green Honda Pilot, and he was dragged a short ways before the vehicle sped off.

The male was quickly rushed to the hospital, where he was struggling with severe and life-threatening injuries. He reportedly suffered from spinal fractures, hip bruising, pelvic fractures, face lacerations, aortic dissection, and road rash. Despite his condition, the victim was able to speak with police and identify the person responsible for the horrific crime – his girlfriend.

The woman was tracked down and arrested for attempted murder and domestic battery with a deadly weapon.

After investigating the ordeal, police learned that the couple had been involved in two previous domestic dispute incidents, so it’s clear that the violence escalated up to this point.

Is Domestic Violence a Misdemeanor or Felony in Las Vegas?

In many cases, a first-time domestic violence offense is charged as a misdemeanor crime. This type of crime often comes with a sentence that includes imprisonment. On average, offenders will spend 2 days to six months in jail. They’ll also be expected to serve up to 120 hours of community service and pay fines ranging from $200 to $1,000.

Domestic violence isn’t always charged as a misdemeanor, though.

Certain factors could bump up the offense to a felony. These factors include (but are not limited to) your prior criminal history, having multiple prior domestic violence convictions, using a deadly weapon, or severely injuring the alleged victim. In the case above, the use of a deadly weapon (the car) means the suspect will most likely face felony charges.

Felony domestic violence with a deadly weapon could lead to a sentence of up to six years in prison. You might also face fines of up to $5,000. What’s more, felonies are serious offenses that could mean a loss of rights if you’re convicted.
