Shooting violence in Las VegasBetween 2014 and 2023, gun death rates increased by 24% in Nevada. Thankfully, those statistics have seen a decline in recent years since 2023. While Las Vegas law enforcement officials are happy to see an overall decline in homicides in the area, they’ve noted that gun violence remains very high in the city.

In one of the most recent incidents, two individuals were injured after being attacked by a gunman on the 2300 block of Stratz Street. North Las Vegas Police officers responded to the incident on Friday, September 26 at around 6:45 P.M.

When the dispatched officers arrived at the scene near Carey Avenue, they immediately discovered two individuals suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both of those victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Detectives are working diligently to piece together what happened and who might be responsible for the incident. So far, very minimal details have been released to the public. It’s unclear who might have been involved in the shooting or why it happened. Police have not yet noted whether this was an incident of random violence or whether a motive has emerged. What’s more, the authorities haven’t identified the victims or disclosed the extent of their injuries.

Unfortunately, this situation has left many Las Vegas residents feeling a bit uneasy about their safety.

What to Know About Firearms and Criminal Charges

In Las Vegas, it’s important to understand your rights and responsibilities when it comes to weapons. In general, you can openly carry a firearm in most areas and have a concealed firearm with the proper permit.

You cannot, however, carry weapons in gun-free zones. You also can’t possess a weapon at all if you have a previous felony conviction, you’ve been convicted of domestic violence, or you’re under a protection order that prohibits firearm possession. You’re also never allowed to possess a firearm when you’re under the influence.

What’s more, you are never permitted to discharge a firearm in public unless it is for self-defense purposes. Someone who discharges a firearm and causes an injury can face serious criminal charges like assault with a deadly weapon. This type of crime is a category B felony that could result in up to six years in prison and life-long consequences.

Another important thing to consider is that a firearm is considered an aggravating factor in any type of criminal case, so using a firearm will automatically mean any other charges you face will immediately be upgraded to a more serious and severe charge.

If you’ve ever been accused of committing a crime involving a weapon, then it’s important to hire a skilled criminal defense attorney who is experienced in defending firearms-related allegations.
