Las Vegas Metropolitan Police saw a sharp decline in officer-involved shootings last year, hitting the lowest number in at least five years. According to a new use-of-force report released by the department, Metro recorded just seven officer-involved shootings (OIS) in 2025.
That’s a roughly 59% drop from 17 incidents in 2024 and the smallest annual total in the 2021–2025 period covered by the report.
Metro responded to more than 1.38 million calls and officer-initiated events in 2025.
The seven shootings made up just 0.0005% of all those incidents, highlighting that the vast majority of police interactions never involve deadly force. Three of the shootings happened outside Metro’s main jurisdiction, including responses in Boulder City and North Las Vegas.
The other four were spread across different area commands within the valley.
Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren called the 2025 numbers a “historic low.” The department pointed to more de-escalation training and smarter tech for communication and planning as major reasons.
Another thing that stood out is the fact that the breaks between incidents got longer. At one point, they went 154 days without an event, the longest stretch in five years.
