LVMPD officer not charged with a crimeAccording to a lawyer representing Metropolitan Police Department Officer Alexander Bookman, the respected cop will not face criminal charges related to a shooting that happened in 2024. According to reports, Bookman fatally shot a man who was in his own home and had called 911 for assistance with a break-in.

This case highlights how difficult it is to make a split-second decision in the heat of the moment when responding to a violent situation. According to reports, Bookman received the alert to respond to the burglary on November 12th. The incident occurred at a residential property on Wine River Drive.

When the officer arrived at the scene, he discovered the victim and a female wrestling with each other. The officer immediately noticed that the male was holding a knife. The officer demanded that the male drop the knife. The male ignored the command, so Officer Bookman again told him to drop the knife. In an effort to reportedly save the woman who appeared to be in distress and in danger, Bookman fired his weapon until the victim, 43-year-old Brandon Durham, fell over.

Later, it was determined that the female, 31-year-old Alejandra Boudreaux, had broken into Durham’s home. Durham’s family is disappointed and upset that the officer will not be indicted. According to the family, the officer didn’t have any reason to shoot Durham since Boudreaux was the original aggressor in the situation. The victim’s mother has told news outlets that she believes her son was murdered by the police department.

The fatal shooting is a devastating tragedy, but a grand jury has determined that the officer didn’t have any criminal intent when the incident occurred. That said, he won’t be charged.

Court records show that Bookman was familiar with the house, as he had just responded to a similar burglary call at the same place, made by the same person, one day prior on November 11th. In that incident, Boudreaux was accused of breaking into Durham’s home.

While no criminal charges will be filed, that doesn’t mean the family’s pursuit of justice is over. The family’s attorney has announced their intent to pursue a civil lawsuit against both Bookman himself and the city of Las Vegas.
