grand jury in Las Vegas, NVAccording to grand jury reports, the fatal shooting incident began on November 12, 2024, when the victim called local authorities to report an attempted burglary. Reports show that 43-year-old Brandon Durham called 911 and told operators that two people were shooting at his house. He also stated that the perpetrators had already killed someone.

Armed with this information, Officer Bookman responded to the call. Body cam footage revealed in the grand jury sessions showed that Bookman and Durham had just been involved in a police situation the day prior. The day before, Durham called 911 to report a break-in by a significant other. During that interaction, the couple decided to part ways. Durham reportedly bought his ex a plane ticket so she would leave the home, but he later cancelled the ticket while she was at the airport.

That’s when the ex reportedly returned to Durham’s house the next day to break in again. When Durham arrived at the location, he found the separated couple struggling over a knife.

The officer demanded that both individuals drop the knife, but the two continued to dangerously battle over the weapon. The officer made the decision to fire shots at Durham because it appeared that he had control over the knife. The officer also later told the grand jury that he believed he was helping to save the woman in that situation.

Later, a toxicology report showed Durham’s behavior was fueled by methamphetamine and amphetamine. The grand jury was also presented with evidence that showed there were two knives within Durham’s reach. Both knives had Durham’s DNA on them, and neither one had any DNA from the female. Boudreaux later told police that she did allow Durham to gain control over the knife when he raised it above her head.

After the incident, Boudreaux was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse, committing a home invasion, and neglect or endangerment in connection with the ordeal. Durham was unfortunately declared deceased.

The grand jury determined that Bookman did not have any criminal intent when he made the decision to shoot the victim, so he will not face charges after the incident.
