Vaughn Griffith, a 15-year-old boy, is being charged as an adult after allegedly sexually assaulting a classmate, recording the incident on his smartphone, and saving it to his social media account. Griffith reportedly committed the act against another student during a private school field trip to Costa Rica. Now, he’s being indicted and facing one felony count of possessing a visual presentation depicting the sexual conduct of a child.
According to court records, the incident occurred during a week-long field trip hosted by the Las Vegas-based Alexander Dawson School. This private school serves children from kindergarten to eighth grade, and it costs an average of $33,000 a year to attend.
Initially, the attack went unnoticed until a family from Summerlin discovered video footage of the horrific attack on a Snapchat account linked to Griffith. The family’s testimony confirmed that the two-minute, 16-second-long video was discovered on a Snapchat account in the “memories” gallery. The video begins with the front-facing camera, where Griffith’s face can clearly be seen.
Then, it flips to the rear-facing camera, where the sexual act is seen involving a 14-year-old minor. The victim is described as an eighth-grade student who was also on the week-long school field trip. Records show the incident occurred in April 2025.
Investigators later determined that the suspect not only recorded the sexual assault but also retained it. He continued using the same account and clearly made no effort to delete the video or hide what he had done.
Tragically, at least three other teens might have been involved in the assault according to the video evidence. No further arrests have been made yet.
Since he’s being charged as an adult, Griffith’s name and charges have all been made public. Griffith was officially arrested and charged but has since posted a $20,000 bail and been released.
