Head-on Collision on Blue Diamond Road
The 65-year-old Blue Diamond man died from injuries he suffered in an Oct. 11 crash on Blue Diamond Road east of Grand Canyon Drive.
He was driving a Nissan Maxima when it slammed head-on into a Mercedes-Benz E 350 coming the other way. The Nissan driver was taken to UMC with injuries that doctors called life-threatening at the time. The driver and passenger of the Mercedes were also taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Metro learned of the man’s death on Saturday.
In a completely separate crash, 75-year-old Roland Bame of Las Vegas died after a vehicle hit him while he was walking in a crosswalk on South Torrey Pines Drive north of West Rochelle Avenue.
A Honda CR V was traveling on Torrey Pines when the driver did not see Bame and struck him, knocking him onto the road. Bame was taken to UMC with severe injuries. The Honda driver stayed at the scene and was not impaired, police said.
Metro was told of Bame’s death on Thursday. His death marked the 100th traffic-related fatality in the area this year.
Investigations Ongoing
