Once officers arrived at the scene near mile marker 100, they found a horrifying scene. Responders discovered two deceased juveniles and five wounded individuals.
Four injured motorists were rushed off to a nearby hospital, but a fifth injured person was in such bad condition that emergency responders called for air support. This individual was airlifted out by Mercy Air and is still in critical condition at the time of this publication.
Tragically, the two juveniles were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Considering the severity of the crash, it makes sense that all northbound traffic lanes on I-15 were temporarily blocked off while responders rendered aid to victims, investigators documented the scene, and the roadways were cleared. During that time, traffic was diverted off onto the I-15 exit off-ramp 100 and then back onto the I-15 100 northbound on-ramp.
As you can imagine, this detour put a significant strain on traffic. Motorists who were diverted faced delays for as long as two hours throughout Sunday. Nearly 12 hours later around 2 A.M., the lanes were reopened.
So far, authorities have not released any details about the incident. The identity of the deceased has been protected since they were minors, and the cause of the crash hasn’t been announced yet. Authorities have declined to state whether they are investigating the situation as a potential criminal case or not. More information is expected to be released in the coming days.
