The new campus is called One Safe Place and sits off Meadows Lane. It is built so survivors can get help without crossing the valley or having to tell their story over and over at different offices.
What the Center Offers
One Safe Place has room for groups such as the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, Clark County Family Services, the Nevada Division of Social Services, Signs of Hope, UNLV’s Survivor Representation and Advocacy Clinic, and several health and housing providers. The grounds also include a food pantry, a childcare area, private meeting rooms, and workshop spaces, all behind stronger security.
SafeNest CEO Liz Ortenburger said putting these services together can cut the time it takes survivors to gather important papers, get on housing lists, and find job support from years down to months.
The group already helps about 16,000 people each year and expects that number to roughly double once the new facility is fully running.
Domestic violence is still a serious problem in Clark County. Local leaders pointed out that it continues to play a large role in homicides across the region. Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II described the opening as a real move toward treating these cases with more urgency instead of treating them as unavoidable.
SafeNest staff looked at similar centers in other cities and noticed that places with lower domestic violence numbers often had one stop hubs that brought police, lawyers, counselors, and social services together.
How the Project Came Together
The state put $9 million toward the complex, and SafeNest is still raising more money to cover the rest of the costs. The center is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. People can find crisis support, legal guidance, help with protective orders, and other services in one spot instead of piecing things together across town.
One Safe Place marks a real step forward by bringing support services together in a single, secure setting. For those who also need focused legal representation in domestic violence matters, protective order cases, or related criminal charges, our team at LV Criminal Defense has years of experience handling these cases in Clark County courts.
